The Autumn Moon Festival

My Apartment Complex

I don't have work today because today is the autumn moon festival. I text Josie, Peter and Anne, asking all of them what I should do for the moon festival and they all say the same thing. Buy a moon cake and look at the moon. None of them tell me where to go, there are no parades or events in the park. Just, eat a moon cake. God I hate small towns.

Pancakes Come

I start the morning by going for a walk to find some breakfast. I stop at a restaurant called Pancakes Come, because that name is hilarious. In China, a pancake is sort of like a crepe sandwich filled with ham, eggs, lettuce and all sort of other vegetables. It's pretty good.

Vitamin Functional

On my way home, I stop and get Red Bull and some more cigarettes. Then I start blogging. I am almost a full week behind, due to lack of wall plug, lack of wi-fi, and general laziness. For hours I blog, trying to relieve events from almost week ago. It takes me a very long time. I probably blog for five or six hours, but make very little progress. I don't care too much, though. I'm having a blast.

My Office View

The view from my office window isn't too bad. I have an aromatic diffuser which I brought with me from America and I'm constantly blasting some Orange essential oil. I am blasting an old hip hop playlist I had made on Spotify and still chain smoking. I message Anne, because we had talked about maybe hanging out tonight, but she cancels. I don't really care, Anne is probably a bad idea anyway.

Real Chinese Street Lamps

While walking to find dinner, I snag a photo of the street lamps, which are designed to look like Chinese lanterns. If someone hold told me the street lamps in China were Chinese lanterns, I would have thought it was a very bad racist joke. But it's true, they are. I stop at a cheap fast food chicken restaurant and get a chicken sandwich, cheese balls, and a strawberry drink. The strawberry drink takes like a mix between a strawberry milkshake and a perfume soda. (I don't know what a perfume soda is, but that's what it tasted like.) The cheese balls are filled with, you guessed it, chicken.

When I get back to my apartment, I feel like I've blogged enough for the day and binge the rest of iZombie. They do a really fun episode right before the finally where they do a heist and have to eat multiple brains mid-heist to successfully pull of the whole thing. Man do I love this show.

And that's it. That's how I spent my Autumn Moon Festival. I barely went outside, I didn't eat any moon cakes, I didn't go look at the moon. I don't care, its the second best day of my trip so far. (My best day was obviously hanging out with Peter in Old Gaochun when I thought I was getting out.) Writing is fun. I hope I can catch up to real time soon, because I feel I'm losing details over the week and the details are the most fun. I would also like to try and write some fiction. But it was a solid day. I don't need to enjoy the town to have fun, I can write and please myself. And once I can get paid, I can start traveling on the weekends. I've got a clear head and an open heart. Maybe I can make this work after all.
